Here’s a transcript: How patient are you?
Are you the one – a bit like me – who can’t wait for their hair to grow, to lose a dress size, to see your muscles show through, to feel the difference of good nutrition – I mean why don’t I instantly feel better? to get a reply from an email, or social media post or text……And why don’t people call straight back after you leave a message…….I mean come on right?? Why is the world moving at SUCH A SLOW PACE???
The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it open. I love that quote.
Patience is defined as:
the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. Well that hardly sounds alluring does it? So, why should we be patient?
Here’s a scenario: You’re waiting for someone to finish compiling information that you need for a meeting. Because of an issue that came up, you’re already 15 minutes late.
You can feel your body getting tense, and you’re getting quite cross. You start sweating, and suddenly you yell at the person for being slow and putting your behind schedule. You can tell she or he is hurt, but you can’t help it. They’re making you late!
Most of us are impatient at times. Losing control of our patience hurts not only us, but those around us. Impatience raises our stress level and can even cause physical harm to our bodies.
SO: How do you know when you’re being impatient? You will probably experience one of more of the following symptoms:
Shallow breathing (short breaths). Muscle tension. Hand clenching/tightening. Jiggling/restless feet.
Irritability/anger. Anxiety/nervousness. Rushing. Snap/quick decisions. Sound familiar?
If you experience the symptoms of impatience, your next step is to discover the true cause. Many of us have “triggers.” And like I said, these could be people, phrases, or specific situations (like rush-hour traffic) that regularly cause us to enter an impatient frame of mind.

So: Why Practice Patience?
Others often see impatient people as arrogant, insensitive, and impulsive. They can be viewed as poor decision makers, because they make quick judgments or interrupt people. Some people will even avoid impatient people, because of their poor people skills and bad tempers.

People with these personality traits are unlikely to be at the top of the list for promotions to leadership positions. Impatience can even affect relationships at home.

The more patient you are with others, the likelier you are to be viewed positively by your peers and your managers, not to mention your family and friends AND you’ll instantly amp up the happiness levels in your life as your impatience melts away!

So here are my top tips to becoming more patient!
1.Look inward
2. Take deep, slow breaths, and count to 10.
3.Learn to manage your emotions
4.Force yourself to slow down.
5.Understand that others move at their own pace.
6. Try to talk yourself out of your impatient frame of mind.

Chances are if you add a little patience into your day, not only will you look and feel better, you’ll be more liked, you’ll make better decisions AND a better or more amazing opportunity may just present itself….Being patient also means to be willing to pass up good for GREAT!
